You would never know it from the media coverage but John McCain is not one of America's greatest war heroes. He is a former POW who survived, heroically. He deserves to be honored for that heroism.

But one thing distinguishes McCain from other war heroes, the kind whose heroism changes history rather than their life stories.

America's two greatest war heroes were Ulysses Grant and Dwight Eisenhower. Grant saved the union. And Ike saved civilization.

And neither one ever bragged about their experience.

The times are too serious, the stakes are too high for this same partisan playbook. So let us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country, and so do you, and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America - they have served the United States of America.

It's that time of year again! The Topdot II Fantasy Football Draft was held Tuesday night...here are some pictures from the war room.

The draft is by far the best part of fantasy football. There's nothing like slamming a guy for drafting Ricky Williams in the first round.

I must admit, I don’t follow the sport of swimming very closely. Like everyone else in the world I’ve heard of Michael Phelps and his pursuit of a perfect 8 gold medals, but that’s about the extent of it. Last night’s 4×100m mens race, however, may have changed all that. This was the one race where Phelps’ perfect run was thought to be in jeopardy. The French team, who’s trash-talking only fueled the Americans’ fire, was heavily favored and appeared to have the race in the bag until the final leg. You just gotta see how this race ended.
